What is Turkey tail extract (Coriolus versicolor extract, PSK, PSP)?
Turkey tail extract (Coriolus versicolor extract, PSK Polysaccharide-K, PSP polysaccharide peptide) is an extracted powder of Trametes versicolor – also known as Coriolus versicolor and Polyporus versicolor – is a common polypore mushroom found throughout the world.
Coriolus versicolor mushroom are bracket fungi, meaning that they form thin, leather-like and leaf-like structures in concentric circles. Rather than gills underneath, as in shiitake mushrooms, their undersides have tiny pores, which emit spores, placing them in the polypore family. These mushrooms grow throughout the world.
What is PSK?
Polysaccharide-K (Krestin, PSK) is a protein-bound polysaccharide, which is using as an anticancer immunologic adjuvant.
We isolate Polysaccharide-K from the fruitbody of Trametes versicolor. PSK has anticancer activity in vitro, in vivo and in human clinical trials. It may inhibit various cancer onset mechanisms. PSK may have use as an adjuvant in the treatment of gastric, esophageal, colorectal, breast and lung cancers. Human clinical trials suggest PSK may affect cancer recurrence when used as an adjuvant, and basic research has demonstrated it inhibited certain human cancer cell lines in vitro.
Polysaccharide-K (PSK) displays anticancer activity in laboratory studies and in preliminary human research. PSK is possibly useful as an adjuvant in the treatment of gastric, esophageal, colorectal, breast and lung cancers. PSK adjuvants are under study for their potential to affect cancer recurrence.
What is PSP?
Polysaccharide peptide (PSP) is a protein-bound polysaccharide extracted from the edible mushroom Coriolus versicolor. PSP is currently in the animal-testing phase of research in many countries for use as an anti-tumor drug. It appears to work as a biological response modifier (BRM), enhancing the body’s own use of macrophages and T-lymphocytes, rather than directly attacking any tumors.
